Jonathan Galassi was born in Seattle, grew up in Massachusetts, and has spent most of his adult life in New York. A lifelong veteran of the publishing business, he has worked at Houghton Mifflin, Random House, and Farrar, Straus & Giroux—from 1986 to present—where he is currently president and publisher.
His first novel, Muse, was published by Knopf in 2015. He has served as poetry editor of the Paris Review and has published three books of poems, most recently Left-handed. He has published translations of the Italian poets Eugenio Montale and Giacomo Leopardi and his translation of Primo Levi’s collected poetry was published by Liveright as part of The Complete Works of Primo Levi.
