WALTER DE MILLY's memoir, In My Father's Arms: A True Story of Incest, was published in 1999 by the University of Wisconsin Press. De Milly was born in Tallahassee, Florida, and received a B.A. in Psychology from Emory University.
He moved to Key West in 1990 via his 23 foot fishing boat, leaving behind a real estate career which, he says, was disastrous. Shortly after his arrival in Key West he began work on his memoir. The book took five years to finish, and another three years to edit and publish.
In the process of writing his story, he became fascinated with a flamboyant ancestor in France around the time of the revolution, and is now at work on a novel of that period.
He has written book reviews and articles for the Key West papers Solares Hill and Celebrate.
De Milly works as an advocate for gay and lesbian victims of domestic abuse. In 1999 he was appointed to a UNESCO advisory committee which will address the problems of internet child pornography and exploitation.
