Jabari Asim is the author of thirteen books for children and eight books for adults. They include We Can’t Breathe: On Black Lives, White Lies, and the Art of Survival; and the novels Yonder and Only the Strong.
Asim is a Guggenheim Fellow whose work has been included in The Best American Essays and The Best American Poetry. A longtime journalist, he is former deputy editor of the Washington Post‘s Book World and former editor-in-chief of NAACP’s Crisis magazine.
He has had work published in the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, American Prospect, and the New Republic, among others. He is a professor at Emerson College, where he directs the MFA Program in Creative Writing.
